Announcing The FOURTH ANNUAL BOSTON SOUPER BOWL Sunday, February 12th from 2 to 6 pm (admission 2 to 5pm) At the Haley House Bakery Café, 12 Dade Street, Roxbury, MA A Fundraiser for the Haley House Soup Kitchen Presented by MassArt's Clay for Change and Haley House Bakery Cafe PLEASE NOTE: Attendees will be admitted to this event continuously throughout - at the time corresponding to their ticket purchase. On Sunday February 12th, from 2 to 6 PM at the Haley House Bakery Café in Roxbury's Dudley Square, chefs will serve soups made from locally sourced ingredients as a fundraiser for Haley House's Soup Kitchen in the South End. Admission will occur at 15-minute intervals. Tickets for this event cost $30 and are available online at: www.brownpapertickets.com Upon entering, attendees will receive a handcrafted ceramic bowl, made by MassArt students participating in its Clay for Change program. They will then make their way from station to station, sampling the soups produced with locally sourced ingredients in the middle of February. After sampling a variety of soups, people realize that eating locally doesn't just have to be a summer/fall phenomenon - with a little creativity, folks can eat locally all year round. At the end of the event, the attendees are invited to take their bowls home with them. Three years ago, the Boston Localvores approached the Haley House Bakery Café with the concept of the first Souper Bowl, an event highlighting locally sourced soups. Last year, MassArt's Clay for Change joined our new reinvented Souper Bowl, now a fundraiser for Haley House's Soup Kitchen in the South End. Chefs for this event make a concerted effort to challenge perceptions about eating locally in mid-Winter. Diverse soups featured in Souper Bowl III included: Garlic Potato Soup/French Onion Soup/Clam & Monkfish Stew/Dug-Out Root Soup/Roasted Seafood Chowder/White Bean, Chicken and Cilantro Soup/Curried Carrot & Celeriac Soup/Cream of Chicken & Leek Soup/Vegan Three Bean Soup/Cheesy Oniony Oat Porridge/Roasted Winter Squash Soup Ingredients in Souper Bowl III soups were sourced from Haley House's own Noonday Farm (Winchendon, MA), Robinson Cheese Farm (Hardwick, MA), Enterprise Farm (South Deerfield, MA), Apex Orchards (Shelburne Falls, MA), Baer's Best Beans (Beverly, MA), The Food Project (Dorchester, MA), North Star Farm (Westport, MA), Sherman's Market (Somerville, MA), Brookwood Community Farm (Canton, MA), Cape Ann Fresh Catch (Gloucester, MA), Eva's Garden (Dartmouth, MA), City Growers (Dorchester, MA), Red Fire Farm (Granby, MA), and Winter Moon Farm (Hadley, MA). With a focus on reciprocal learning, Haley House Meals Program offers wholesome nourishment to mind, body and spirit in Boston's oldest soup kitchen, situated in the South End neighborhood. More than simply serving food, the Meals Program is intent on building community and relationships at six breakfasts and three elder meals per week. It serves home-cooked, nutritious meals as a way to create a space of refuge from the violence and anonymity of the streets. There are no metal detectors or law enforcement officers present. The personalist focus of the Meals Programs offers a broader perspective on the systems that create hunger and poverty, while working to create alternatives to those systems. The funds raised in Souper Bowl IV will provide sufficient funds to purchase one month's supply of food to be served in the soup kitchen. Clay for Change is a student activity group at Massachusetts College of Art, and "Empty Bowls" is one of its primary initiatives. With "Empty Bowls," the students make bowls to raise money for those who are in need of food. Their goal is to help Mass Art to make strong connections with communities that need help.
